Season 4 Break Week
Most players took the planned break during this week, but some decided to deal with delayed games and deny their opponents any rest, so we were to see some nice matchups.
While Week 5 was favouring grenadiers being MVP in several games, the in-season break week throwed in some nice examples of ukrainian package delivery system™ as dozens of poor foot soldiers died under carpet bombings across the battlefields.
First game on Agenda (Barf’s pick) starts ok for Barf as infantry trades go even and he comes first to the bottom patch and takes the center, pushing Han out of it. This however turns sour when Han [surprise] gets a bigger blob than Barf and launches a massive scale attack through the topside coupled with MCV move, denying Barf‘s expansion in the topright corner and repelling the incoming defence force which is several seconds too late. That topright foothold allows Han to have additional pressure point on Barf‘s main base, and as the ore patches get depleted, Barf‘s future looks rather bleak.
Spotting that the top side is not taken by Han who is busy basecrawling, Barf throws 2 MCVs to both ore patches there and tries to outscale the opponent, managing to sneak an engineer to the only money-lending refinery of Han , and also possessing the radar dome tech. These moves are countered by Han‘s massive tank force invasion that wrecks the bottom expansion and then invades the top one, only to be barely stopped right before it deals sufficient damage. This proves to be the turning point, as Barf now retains the deathball of vetted infantry which rolls through the top and left into Han‘s main, whereas couple of artillery pieces and base defences push the enemy on Barf‘s main.
For second game Han picks Behind the Veil and tries to take the initiative from the start by streaming his infantry right into Barf‘s top oil derrick, only to be completely destroyed by riflemen of Barf which are already there. The game evolves pretty calm afterwards, with both players taking their native expansions, until both decide to go for the topright at the same time. This time Han is quicker on the mark, at the same time preparing a force in the bottomleft to also deny a likely move of his opponent to even out the expansion count. Han then decides to increase his lead which turns out a bad move because Barf‘s quickly techs up, deflects the attack with a sheer count of V2’s and marches to a completely undefended bottom-left expansion that is also a position for Han’s radar and airfields. With losing his tech, resting on a single MCV and having power issues due to using tesla coils without advanced power plants, Han floats a huge amount of money he can’t effectively spend and slowly crumbles under pressure, only having some successful yak snipes as a consolation.
Smitty/Orb: any match in Masters division is probably now considered to be a highlight of the week, and this one wasn’t an exception.
Anjew/SirCake: match was previously marked as a strike to anjew, but was anyways played with a fully reversed result.
Barf/SirCake: rather quick matchup, notable by quick aggressive movements by both players, an example of that being a rocket drop versus a gren drop meeting in the middle of Pitfight.
Mentats/T:”Who builds more planes” mini-tournament. Ended in a draw as well as the match result itself.
Eloyros/3Lucian: another draw between now equally skilled opponents that intensifies the battle for promotion in Recruits Bravo even further.
Things start to look interesting as FiveAces is now matched against Gatekeeper who is certainly capable of finally sneaking some points from a current Masters leader.
In Minions division SoScared will be a person of interest, planning to play 3 of his matches – against NoobMapMaker, Medium Tank and Raishiwi, either of these matches can pose a threat to SoScared losing points. Omnom/Medium Tank and Happy/Mentats are also promising in terms of entertainment.
Top6 battles continue in Recruits Bravo, with 3Lucian/Craig Christ and BullE/Eloyros matchups. Delayed Round5 match awaits wippie and netnazgul in Recruits Charlie.
And of course every other match can spring surprises, so stay vigilant.
