Season 4 Week 7
Week 7 started as lazy as the previous one, but by the weekend we’ve got a stream of nice matchups, and some important league-deciders among them. Let’s see what we’ve got here.
We have another losses in the League as Medium Tank decided not to wait to be struck out and called for season forfeit. Another player leaving the Recruit Bravo division is kallen.
In the first game on Pitfight Gatekeeper tried to pull off a risky maneuver by grabbing Smitty‘s double mine expansion right away. But with his army splitted and far away from the MCV, Gatekeeper just couldn’t keep the ground against an incoming blob while his forces just died one by one. This forced him to move out, and without an army and being late on money earning, Gatekeeper wasn’t able to withstand the onslaguht as Smitty continued to deny the top-right expansion.
Second one on Borrowed Time proved to be back and forth with both players having chances at certain points of time.
Smitty started with dumping his pack of starting rifles into an enemy pillbox in an attempt to hit the powerplant against Gatekeeper‘s War Factory opener. The course of the game then developed slowly for ~5 minutes during which players grabbed their natural expansions while trying to get a positive net gain on engagements. Gatekeeper opted for a mass hind harassment while Smitty has gone with a more general mass approach. Nice move by Smitty was an original MCV move closer to the center to grab center ore patch. That MCV then moved further to the south-east to contest the patch on the right where Gatekeeper was already trying to fortify. At the same time main forces of both opponents roamed the left part of the map trying to not show the enemy an angle to attack more than finding one. This ended in a mass engagement with Smitty also comitting an MCV into the fight. The battle was indecisive, but it allowed Gatekeeper to gather a secondary army and fight Smitty off the right ore patch. Unlucky for Smitty this was also the flank where he placed his Tech Center.
Gatekeeper/FiveAces: first dropped points by FiveAces, and in a stunningly onesided way. In a second game FiveAces managed to kill exactly two neutral civilians with his two parabomb runs. Also there was a scary supply truck.
Barf/Orb: Orb was stunned by being dropped to 0 power in the first game so tried to do some extreme things which didn’t work. Second game didn’t get exactly his way either.
eskimo/xy: masterfully implemented APC drop by eskimo in a second game. Check the distraction rifles 😉
netnazgul/wippie: I don’t like to comment my games of course, but that was quite fun. First game could have easily gone both ways.
The League is coming to its latter stages, and we will soon see the outcomes.
Until the Iron Curtain drops, there are following major events this week:
